Semantic Match ("we", "us") is a dating app that uses AI to match people based on what they write. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

What We Collect

• Account info: Name, email, birth date, location
• Profile content: Your "About Me" and "Looking For" text, photos (up to 3)
• Preferences: Relationship preferences and dealbreakers you set in your profile
• Activity: Who you like, messages you send
• Technical: When you signed up, when you were last active

How We Use Your Data

• Matching: We use OpenAI to convert your profile text into "embeddings" (numerical representations) to find compatible matches. Your actual text is sent to OpenAI for processing but not stored by them.
• Communication: We use your email to send login links, match notifications, and messages. We use Resend to deliver these emails.
• Photos: Your photos are stored on Cloudinary's servers.
• Analytics: We use GoatCounter to count page views. GoatCounter does not use cookies and does not track individual users. We also track when you last used the site and when you edit your profile (to enforce rate limits).

Who We Share Data With

We share your data with these services to make the app work:

• OpenAI - Your "About Me" and "Looking For" text is sent to OpenAI to generate match embeddings. OpenAI does not store this data.
• Cloudinary - Your photos are stored on Cloudinary's servers.
• Resend - Your email address is shared with Resend to deliver emails to you.
• DigitalOcean - Our server and database are hosted on DigitalOcean.

We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Where Your Data is Stored

• Database: Your account, profile, messages, and activity data are stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany (EU).
• Photos: Profile photos are processed and stored by Cloudinary Inc. in the United States. See their privacy policy.
• Profile processing: Your profile text is sent to OpenAI (US) for embedding generation but is not stored by them.

If you are in the EU, your core data (account, messages, activity) remains in the EU. Photos and AI processing involve US-based services.

How Long We Keep Your Data

• Your account and profile data are kept until you delete your account
• Messages are kept until either user deletes their account
• Login links expire after 1 hour

Deleting Your Data

You can delete your account from your profile page. This permanently removes your profile, photos, messages, likes, and matches. This cannot be undone.

Security

• We use magic links for login (no passwords to steal)
• Data is transmitted over HTTPS
• Photos are resized and processed before storage

No system is 100% secure. If you discover a vulnerability, please email us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We'll post updates on this page.
